Clone Cross-Sheet References

Add or update cross-sheet references across multiple sheets simultaneously.

Clone Cross-Sheet References (Clone CSR) adds or updates cross-sheet references across multiple sheets at once. Use it when you need to replicate the same reference range from one central sheet to many destination sheets, or when you need to add a new cross-sheet reference across a portfolio of similarly structured project folders.

Overview

Clone CSR has two modes:

  • Single Source — clone the same reference range from one source sheet to many destination sheets
  • Folders/Workspaces — clone a reference range across similarly structured folders, matching sheets by naming convention

Prerequisites

  • A Solution Manager account.
  • Assets must be owned by users within your plan.
  • Editor-level access or higher on the sheets involved.

Mode 1 — Single Source

  1. Click Clone Cross-Sheet References from the Solution Manager home screen.
  2. Select Single Source in the configuration panel.
  3. Select your source sheet.
  4. Select all destination sheets that should receive the reference.
  5. Enter a name for the cross-sheet reference.
  6. Define the range by selecting the from and to column and row bounds.
  7. Click Create Reference.

Mode 2 — Folders/Workspaces

Use this mode for a portfolio of project folders with consistent naming conventions — for example, a Smartsheet Control Center environment.

  1. Click Clone Cross-Sheet References from the Solution Manager home screen.
  2. Select Folders/Workspaces in the configuration panel.
  3. Select every folder or workspace that contains the standardized structure.
  4. Enter the partial name used in the naming convention for both the source and destination sheets. Solution Manager uses this to identify the correct sheet within each folder.
  5. Enter a name for the cross-sheet reference.
  6. Define the range bounds.
  7. Click Create Reference.

Troubleshooting

References were not created on some sheets. In Mode 2, Solution Manager matches sheets by partial name. If a sheet in a folder does not contain the partial name you entered, it will be skipped.

The reference was created but formulas are not pulling data. Confirm the row and column bounds match the actual range on the source sheet.
