Bulk Edit lets you find and replace text across multiple Smartsheet assets in one action. Use it when internal terminology changes, asset names need to be updated, or any text needs to be standardized across a solution.
What you can update
- Asset names (sheets, reports, dashboards)
- Cell values
- Formulas in cells and sheet summary fields
- Sheet summary field titles and values
- Hyperlink names and URLs
- Column titles
Prerequisites
- A Solution Manager account.
- Assets must be owned by users within your plan.
- Editor-level access or higher on the assets you want to update.
Running a Bulk Edit
- Click Bulk Edit from the Solution Manager home screen.
- Select the assets you want to update from the workspace panel.
- Enter the text to find and the replacement text on the right side of the tool.
- Toggle on each area of Smartsheet you want updated.
- Click Test Update, choose a sample sheet, and click Run Test.
- Review the test results. Solution Manager runs the update on a copy of the sample sheet — your live data is not affected until you approve.
- If the test looks correct, click Deploy. If not, adjust your configuration and re-run the test.
Troubleshooting
Some assets were not updated. Only assets owned by users within your plan are eligible. Check ownership for anything that did not update.
Selecting a workspace or folder did not update the assets inside it. Selecting a workspace or folder only selects that container as an asset — not its contents. Select individual sheets, reports, and dashboards directly.
Content inside dashboards and reports was not updated. Bulk Edit does not update content embedded inside dashboard widgets or report configurations. Only the asset name is updated for these types.
